A Love Story

Every year, on Easter, I get overwhelmed with emotion when I reflect on God’s love for me and the sacrifice he made for MY salvation. I think of the selfless act of dying for the ones we love, and my heart can’t completely fathom the bravery in that. Around Christmas, I feel a deep gratitude for God’s willingness to send His son to us—knowing full well the way his life would end. So, what does this have to do with a Valentine’s Day post? It has everything to do with a day about love. God IS love!
It is easy to get hung up on the hype surrounding a commercialized Valentine’s Day and its over emphasis on romantic gestures (which I think are wonderful by the way), but when we look at what love truly is, I hope we look to the greatest example...God.
Whether you are married, engaged, dating, or single, YOU are part of the greatest love story. You are part of this great love story simply because you exist. You don’t have to earn this love and this love isn’t conditional. This love is slow to anger and is sacrificial. It is not self-seeking, but, instead, always seeking after you to meet your needs. In this love, you can feel safe, secure, cherished, and adored. You can feel at peace, regardless of what life throws your way because it will never forsake you.
On my first Valentine’s Day as a single mom, God encouraged me with this reminder, and I pray it can bring encouragement to someone else today. YOU...yes YOU, are perfectly loved and are part of the greatest love story there ever will be.
